False Flag 04:50
You tell the world you really care But your pain is never really there You keep your heart in a plastic bag And wave it like a false flag Preach to me about the righteousness you feel If it's important to you, why should it matter to me You tell the world you really care But your pain is never really there You keep your heart in a plastic bag And wave it like a false flag False flag, false flag Tell me why you think you're always right About what to believe and the causes you think I should fight You tell the world you really care But your pain is never really there You keep your heart in a plastic bag And wave it like a false flag You keep your heart in a plastic bag And wave it like a false flag I'm beginning to think that the cracks are starting to show And the more that I see, the less I'm surprised to know You tell the world you really care But your pain is never really there You keep your heart in a plastic bag And wave it like a false flag You pretend that you really care But in the end you're not really there You keep your heart in a plastic bag And wave it like a false flag False flag, it's just for, false flag It's just for show False flag, it's just for... There's a flash upon the screen You're lost inside a dream You don't know what you're seeing And the face that's looking back at you Mirrors what you're feeling Recollection of a dream You don't know just what it means And your memory is changing Recollection of a dream Nothing is as it would seem And your heart becomes a stranger Waking up, it's gone It never lasts for long You never can remember And the moment always passes by Replaces now with never Recollection of a dream You don't know just what it means And your memory is changing Recollection of a dream Nothing is as it would seem And your heart becomes a stranger You wanna hold onto You wanna hold onto You wanna hold onto the memory You wanna hold onto You wanna hold onto You wanna hold onto the memory Recollection of a dream You don't know just what it means And your memory is changing Recollection of a dream Nothing is as it would seem And your heart becomes a stranger Recollection of a dream You don't know just what it means And your memory is changing Recollection of a dream Nothing is as it would seem And your heart becomes a stranger You wanna hold onto You wanna hold onto You wanna hold onto the memory Written by Dave Lloyd Published by Nero Schwarz Music ℗ & © The Suns 2020

You were so happy when you were young Life seemed to stretch on forever Once all the time you had Would never run away but night became the day before you knew Your time was gone Forever slips away You'll never see those days again You were so happy when you were young Life seemed to stretch on forever Now time runs on so fast It always runs away and days they seem to fade Before you know Your time has gone Forever slips away Remember when it felt so good To be so young and misunderstood And time it seemed was always here to stay Remember when the days were long And nothing that you did felt wrong You didn't think forever slips away You were so happy when you were young Life seemed to stretch on forever Once all the time you had Would never run away but night became the day before you knew Your time was gone Forever slips away You'll never see those days again Written by Dave Lloyd Published by Nero Schwarz Music ℗ & © The Suns 2020

This is your story, in your own words You make the chapter, you make the verse Start with yourself 'cos you come first Don't skip to the end and make it worse Sleep now eternal Wake up on the other side Sleep now eternal Nothing ever really dies Remember the fear you felt before Those darkest moments, you won that war Now that you're here, don't you want more Sleep now eternal Wake up on the other side Sleep now eternal Nothing ever really dies Sleep now eternal Wake up on the other side Sleep now eternal Wake up on the other side Sleep now eternal Wake up on the other side Sleep now eternal Nothing ever really dies Sleep now eternal Wake up on the other side Sleep now eternal Wake up on the other side Written by Dave Lloyd and Markus Mulholland Published by Nero Schwarz Music ℗ & © The Suns 2020

You're dead to rights and you're dead to wrongs It doesn't matter what comes along You'll be singing that same old song Dressed in your best arkangel disguise You wear your man suit with such disdain You tell yourself that you feel no pain But the shadows that haunt you wait in vain Laughing at your arkangel disguise And you know who you are, yes you do, yes you do You're dead to rights, you're dead to wrongs And we know who you are, yes we do, we you do You think you're hot, you're not so cool You think you're hot but you're not so cool Travel the world like a hapless fool You could suck the life out an empty pool Drowning in your arkangel disguise And you know who you are, yes you do, yes you do You're dead to rights, you're dead to wrongs And we know who you are, yes we do, we you do You think you're hot, you're not so cool And you know who you are, yes you do, yes you do You're dead to rights, you're dead to wrongs And we know who you are, yes we do, we you do You think you're hot, you're not so cool And you know who you are, yes you do, yes you do You're dead to rights, you're dead to wrongs And we know who you are, yes we do, we you do You think you're hot, you're not so cool Written by Dave Lloyd and Markus Mulholland Published by Nero Schwarz Music ℗ & © The Suns 2020

Screaming on the inside, always silent never heard Screaming from within, holding back your words The reason for everything it's what's inside The reason for everything it's where you hide The reason for everything will break you down It's not all live and let live, you've got a right to decide (Even though you're smiling, your eyes are never lying) Who's in and out of your life, be careful where you confide (Even though you're crying, your eyes are always hiding) There's nothing wrong with being right Fight your battles, stay out of the fight (Fight your battles, stay out of the fight) The reason for everything it's what's inside The reason for everything it's where you hide The reason for everything will break you down Feels just like you're drowning and you don't know why The sad thing is your silence only hides the lie Only hides the lie Only hides the lie Only hides the lie The reason for everything it's what's inside The reason for everything it's where you hide The reason for everything it's what's inside The reason for everything will break you down Will break you down Even though you're smiling, your eyes are never lying Will break you down, will break you down Even though you're crying, your eyes are always hiding Will break you down There's nothing wrong with being right, nothing wrong with being right Will break you down Even though you're smiling, your eyes are never lying Will break you down There's nothing wrong with being right, nothing wrong with being right Will break you down Even though you're crying, your eyes are always hiding Will break you down Written by Dave Lloyd and Markus Mulholland Published by Nero Schwarz Music ℗ & © The Suns 2020

about

Serve 9 finds The Suns embracing their love of post-punk and 80's pop, channelling influences from the likes of classic post-punk bands such as Scars, The Armoury Show and Sector 27 through to the 80's pop perfection of Duran Duran, The Fixx and Tears For Fears, with the songs delivered in the band’s trademark genre-defiant stance.

From the edgy post-punk of False Flag to the 80's-tinged pop of Recollection Of A Dream and the haunting neo-Bacharach of Forever Slips Away, the album runs an emotionally-charged gauntlet throughout.

The title of the album came about after the band were discussing whether they would have 9 or 10 songs on the record and it was decided that the best dishes are served in odd numbers!

The album was aimed as an antidote to the previous Suns album, the prog rock epic, Time To Burn which included a 10 minute track. Dave says “We liked the idea of Serve 9 being motif-driven, short songs, use of repetition, big choruses, faster tempos, so we ran with it and it felt right.”

As the recording process neared completion, the band were looking for one final track to complete the set of 9. The solution came in the unlikely form of an invitation by Nero Schwarz Music to participate in an official Black / Colin Vearncombe tribute project, entitled Love, Colin. “We were invited to cover Everything's Coming Up Roses” says Markus, “which was great for us as it is our all-time fave Black song. It felt like it was perfect as the final piece in the puzzle and we gave it the full Serve 9 treatment.”
